Winter 22

Affective nostalgia

Our moodboards and creative references served as a starting point to evoke the atmosphere and aesthetics experienced by our grandparents' generation—when clothing was crafted with care, textures carried stories, and colors reflected the pace of a simpler life. Translating those feelings into a modern collection became both our inspiration and our biggest challenge.

We explored how to recreate these sensations through material choice, layering, and garment details—such as visible seams, soft-touch fabrics, handmade finishes, and nostalgic prints. The design direction combined retro influences with updated silhouettes that reflect Sidewalk’s casual and youthful identity, creating a wearable bridge between past and present.

What about my chalenges?

For me, the most meaningful part of this process was learning how to convert intangible emotions—like comfort, memory, and belonging—into physical garments. It pushed me to think beyond trends and focus on how clothes can connect people to their personal and cultural stories. One of the biggest challenges was finding a balance between honoring vintage aesthetics and ensuring relevance for today’s consumer. It was a process of emotional translation as much as design, and it taught me the value of designing not just with creativity, but with empathy and intention.

The creation of the Memórias Nostálgicas winter collection for Sidewalk was a deeply reflective and emotionally charged design journey. Rooted in the concept of affective memory, the process began with visual and emotional research focused on capturing the warmth, simplicity, and storytelling found in everyday objects and moments from the past—cassette tapes, vintage TVs, handmade crochet, and retro scooters.
